Trinity Turbine Technology, L.P. – Celebrates 20 years!!!

During his 25 year career with the Dow Chemical Company, the late Jessie Scott was part of the team that developed and led the company’s Gas Turbine maintenance program for all of the heavy frame gas and steam turbines for their Global fleet.  Dow was an innovative leader in the early development of the turbine component repair and maintenance industry working alongside both the OEMs and aftermarket service providers.  At one time, Dow Chemical was actually the largest generator of electricity in the great state of Texas.

From the experiences and knowledge gained, Mr. Scott recognized the need for a 3rd party independent service provider that truly focused on the needs of the customer and not just corporate agendas. He and his partners formed a repair service provider 30 years ago, which was subsequently acquired by a larger corporate industrial group. After his 5 year work agreement and subsequent non-compete contract expired; he knew the service industry base was still in need of a true independent component repair service company that he had dreamed of years ago.

With that focus in mind, Jessie and his sons (Phillip and Sonny) began Trinity Turbine Technology L.P. in a humble 5,000 square foot building in February 2002. Over the course of the next 14 years they added more buildings, more equipment, more tooling and more specialists to their team – yet they knew that to achieve their collective dream; they were going to have to take a huge step of faith.

The Scott family has always known that the key to their success depended not only on their customer relationships, but also on the people that they had on their team to provide those clients with the services they expected; that were often unmet by their existing service providers. The Scott’s commitment to their people is evidenced by their low turnover rate and the average tenure of their key colleagues. The core team at Trinity is comprised of numerous co-workers that have been with them since day one (20 years) including several from their pre-Trinity roots.  That core team fulfills positions including Salesmen, Tech Reps, Cell leaders, Welders, Machinists, Inspectors, etc.  Trinity recognizes that their greatest asset is their people.

From those humble beginnings, approx. 6 years ago The Scott family purchased 13 acres on Hwy 288 (30 miles South of Houston) and built an 85,000 square foot – “state of the art” purpose built repair facility.  The facility is self-contained/self-sufficient with complete in-house inspection and repair capabilities; including 50 welding stations; full service machining capabilities; vacuum heat treating furnaces/ovens; fuel nozzle (gas and liquid) flow testing capabilities; fully robotic thermal spray coating booths; industrial paint booth, grit blasting, shot peening, and in-house metallurgical lab.  This new facility better reflects the quality of our people. Take a tour.

Once the new facility was built and fully operational, The Scotts recognized that, as they evolved from what some considered to be a “mom and pop” shop to becoming a major player in the aftermarket, they needed to add additional talent to their leadership team that would foster the growth they had envisioned years ago. So, they set out to strategically add key pieces to achieve their goals of providing the clients with the highest levels of quality and service for their gas turbine overhaul, repair and maintenance needs. They knew that most, if not all companies claim that they hire the “best in the industry” and this is an often overstated, under achieved goal. None the less – they wanted to move in that direction; so it began:

Joe Drury – President – Trinity Coatings

Joe joined Trinity in 2014, after approximately 10 years in the gas turbine component repair and coating aftermarket having prior experience with GE Power Systems and Sulzer Turbo Services.

In addition to initially coordinating all of Trinity’s coating subcontractors, he was responsible for the full construction of Trinity’s new one-stop shop facility. He also established the second company for the Trinity/Scott family known as Trinity Coatings. This coating facility has quickly become recognized as an industry leading coating facility that is uniquely focused on the clients’ needs – the same culture that the Scott’s envisioned over 20 years ago.

Trinity Coatings has 3 thermal spray booths that are fully robotically integrated and equipped to perform HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel), APS (Air Plasma Spray), Arc Wire Spray coatings to gas turbine components as well as many other types of industrial machinery.  Trinity can provide shaft coating and grinding services with capabilities up to 24” swing x 8’ length.  In addition, Trinity has an industrial paint booth and can fulfill a wide variety of other coating needs.  Visit Trinity Coatings.

Chris Green – President – Trinity Turbine Services

Chris joined Trinity in 2017 as he established the Trinity Turbine Services (Field Services Division), the third Trinity/Scott family owned entity focused on the needs of the customer.

This addition solidified Trinity as a turnkey service provider for Turbine inspections and overhauls in the Power Generation market sector, but also positioned Trinity to meet an ever growing need of providing skilled labor/maintenance and mechanical support services (shop and field) to the oil, gas and petrochemical market sectors as well.

Chris has 40 years of hands on mechanical services as a millwright, as well as a TFA/Project Manager for a major US independent electricity generator.  He also has held key leadership positions for several industry service providers such as Westinghouse, Thomassen Turbine Systems America and Universal Plant Services. Iain has held strategic leadership positions for companies including GE, GTE and the Wood Group

Iain is instrumental in leading Trinity to a higher level repair service of fuel nozzle and combustion systems that has pushed Trinity ahead of other repair facilities.  He has greatly enhanced the company’s knowledge and experience in fuel nozzle design, repair and maintenance; upgraded pre-existing gas only flow testing capabilities; added liquid fuel flow testing capabilities; as well as designed combustion system improvements and new technologies.

Trinity has many new ideas that the market will see in the near future!

Roger Ford – Vice President of Business Development

Roger joined the Trinity Team in early 2021 to assist the Trinity Leadership team in capitalizing on their prior successes and parlaying Trinity’s strengths in their people, their expertise and their somewhat untapped market potential to satisfy the needs and expectations of a larger customer base market share.

Roger has nearly 40 years of domestic and international experience in various Sales, Business Development and Executive leadership positions with some of the widely recognized industry aftermarket leaders including Hickham Industries/Sulzer Turbo Systems, Wood Group and Universal Plant Services.

The Scott brothers, Phillip and Sonny – with their combined 60+ years industry experience; true to their upbringing and DNA have assembled a key team that is focused on continuing the legacy that their father began over 30 years ago. “Give the customer a high quality product/service that is fair in price and unmatched in service”. That is our goal – every moment of every project that we execute, no matter how big or small!
